Tau Station

Role: Narrative Design, Game Design, Social Media Content, Localization, Editing

Tau Station is a free to play, narrative-focused science fiction MMORGP. Because we were working with a small team, I had the opportunity to fill many roles on this project. The game is played across numerous space stations in multiple star systems. As a Narrative Designer, I was responsible for the design and implementation of multiple stations, each with its own history, people (NPCs), and story. Each station also had multiple missions (quests) as well as side jobs, each of which I wrote for my stations. I also contributed to additional stations and worked with the rest of the narrative team on stations that we shared.

As a writer, I focused on branching narrative and making player choices count. Most of my missions had multiple endings and were designed with the intention of allowing the player to make their own path through the universe. As a designer, I was responsible for all of the back end work of implementing my missions, areas, and NPCs into the game, using the in-house tool Mission Builder. Mission Builder. I was instrumental in the redesign of the Mission Builder and worked directly with the head programmer to create a more robust system which would allow for writers to better track player choices.

I also wrote blog posts, assisted the social media team with Facebook and Twitter posts, and did localization. Additionally, I was responsible for writing most of the content for our press kit and assisted with the game’s trailer.
